Wandering WordPress

While it is still very much a work in progress, I have been enjoying the experience of beginning to work with WordPress. The greatest challenge that I have encountered so far has been trying to strike a balance between creating a website that will be primarily used for this class for the rest of the term and one that I would like to also be able to use to show off and organize my own original works as an artist and storyteller. So far I have balanced to two by using my original art as a background image, so that I can still show it off while also letting content for this class take a more central position.

I feel like all the benefits and drawbacks of “rolling your own” website come from the fact that the control is more in your hands. While this brings benefits like being able to make things look exactly how you want them, that also comes with significantly more work. Another benefit that I can see is that creating your own website gives you more freedom to craft your own identity, while social media sites tend to either base things off what they know about you in real life or base things off of the people you interact with.

My website is located here, for those who are curious. I still feel like I have a lot of work to do, and will likely be changing the colors slightly for months until I get them to look better, but overall I like how it looks so far.
