Squirrels in NYC

For the ArcGIS activity, I wanted to see if there was any difference between the color of the squirrel and where they were located in Central Park. For example, were the black squirrels found to be largely in the shade or in darker places? Was there really any difference? I chose to do a layer of the natural landscape to see the trees and greenery which I thought would help to decipher where the areas that the squirrels could hide would be. However, I felt that the map was still hard to read and not truly decipherable. On top of the fact that squirrels don’t stay in the same spot all day and are constantly moving, the map would not help to accurately find this information.

Using the directions, I found that creating the map was not as difficult as I thought it would be. If I didn’t have those instructions, however, it probably would have been much harder for me since I do not have past experience with this kind of technology. Overall, I still thought it was extremely fun to use and would love to gain more experience with it.

Your Idea on analyzing squirrel locations by natural geography definitely sounds interesting, and I’m sorry that you weren’t able to read the map well. Have you thought of ways to increase the readability of the maps?
