SketchUp Experience

Picture of house with flat roof and small courtyard in front

SketchUp wasn’t too hard to get a handle on but it had a tendency to do what it thinks you want and is often wrong. I had trouble getting lines to connect where I wanted them to. I’m particularly proud of the courtyard but I think the proportions of the house still look a little off. I also wish I’d thought about color because I think it would feel better if it were not so blue and gray.

I can see this tool being used for lots of different purposes other than architecture. You could use it to model archaeological sites, make video game environments, use it as a reference for one point or two point perspective, design a location for a story, rearrange your room, and more. It’s a pretty cool tool once you get the hang of it. I think a tip might be to pay attention to your axes and use as few lines as possible.

Nice house modeling! A pretty modernism house. Wonder if you could provide more pictures from different perspectives so that we could get a clearer sense of the volume and space relations in your house.

I agree with Yixin, Molly — a nice house from what I can see, but providing some zoomed in views and different angles would allow us to engage the details of your efforts. And adding textures definitely helps to bring the model to life.
