SketchUp Building – Teagan Johnson

This is the front view to my house on SketchUp. First, I created a singular rectangle. Then, I continued adding rectangles to represent the garage and the front step.
This is the back view to my house on SketchUp. The most difficult part for me was creating a triangular roof. It took many tries to finally figure out a successful method.

a. Overall, using SketchUp was an enjoyable experience. It was a bit of a learning curve at first, but the longer I worked with it, the easier it became.

b. The process of moving one individual line instead of all the parts connected to the line was very tedious. I’m still not entirely sure of how to do this, but I hope that with more practice I’ll be able to figure it out.

c. One compromise that I had to make was that instead of moving the line on the top of the roof in order to create the triangular shape, I created two vertical lines at each end of the roof and connected them to the base of the roof with the box tool.

d. This tool (SketchUp) could be very useful to help teach people about architecture. It’s quite easy to navigate and would provide an interactive resource for people wanting to learn. SketchUp can also be useful when researching how a certain building style looks.

I really liked how you described the process used to build your structure through the images. It made for a dynamic and engaging presentation. As for the difficulty with the triangular form, what I did was to draw a line (using the pencil item) through the middle of your rectangle and then pull that line up with the “move” box (looks like an X). Hope that helps!
