Using SketchUp for the first time was a rather challenging though rewarding experience. It reminded me of my experience of learning a new language, where I would have to adapt a sentence structure to say what I wanted but using words I knew. With SketchUp I had to try and build a structure as well as I could with the tools I knew how to use. One particular difficulty was finding Mac-oriented SketchUp tutorials but this just meant a few additional Google searches and not necessarily an impediment or obstacle to completing the assignment – aside from not having been able to figure out how to find “components” on Mac! Still trying to figure that out…
One tip for those of you navigating these Sketch-y waters:
Take it step-by-step! I found it helpful to work on my sketch while watching the tutorials. This way I better absorbed the concepts without feeling too overwhelmed with the amount of information.

I also found that watching tutorials while making the house was very beneficial. As far as the “components” tab on mac, I believe it can be found in the right menu of tools. However, I have not used this feature myself.
