Creating a WordPress Site

Creating my own website was a challenging assignment, to say the least. It took me a long time to set up and install the necessary plugins. I decided to stay with the Twenty Twenty theme, because I liked that one the most. I spent some time reviewing what I had learned of CSS, and then tried to add different colors, fonts, and sizes to the text and general set up of the website. It was challenging, but I got it to a place where I am happy with the results. I will definitely be adding to and tinkering with it later on.

I like the idea of having a professional website that I could add to my resume or use in my career or social life. While it is nowhere near ready for that use, I enjoy having a digital space of my own and can see myself using it in the future. I also thought of using it as a digital portfolio, I have a few projects of my own, and they are in many different mediums. I would like to have a space to put all of my projects, even if they are different types. That seems to be one plus to “rolling my own” website, I can have full control over what media I put on it and what it looks like.

Oftentimes on social media, there can only be certain types of content. I have an Instagram, a Facebook account, and a Youtube channel with a couple of videos. These account can only do so much, and having the liberty to change and present media as I wish is definitely a benefit of sites like WordPress. I have some experience with hosted services as well, and they are very limiting. My band has a website, and we do not currently update it, because it poses so many problems with format and style. While I can also attribute this to the specific hosted service we used or our lack of digital knowledge, I can tell just by making this website that it opens up many more possibilities. This is my website for anyone interested!
