Finally, I have a space to put all my theories about mushrooms. oshanno.com is here! Building the website was kind of fun for me, I liked looking through themes and customizing it. I struggled with the CSS portion of it though, and didn’t manage to figure out how to get a custom cursor. Not yet, anyway! I settled on a minimalist theme with a light purple background. It’s not the most eye-catching thing, but it’s easy to read and navigate and that’s really what I was going for.
I’m not sure if I’ll use the website solely for mushroom conspiracies or what, but I like that it is <i>my</i> website, and I can do what I want with it. I might use it to document work that I’m particularly proud of, or subjects (like mushrooms) that I’m currently interested in.
Because this isn’t a social media website, I think people will have a harder time finding it, because it won’t be suggested to them while they’re doing their daily scroll through Instagram or Twitter. That could be a drawback to some, but I am content to have this corner of the internet for myself and the people who stumble into it. Although I’m not completely sure, I think that hosting my own domain gives me more control over the settings and content I am allowed to post.

Shannon, I love your website. I didn’t know there was that much to say about mushrooms! I also agree that while it may be harder to find, it is kind of nice to have a little part of the web designed for (and by!) me. The CSS portion was definitely a struggle for me as well, likely as a result of our lack of coding background, but hey, we did it! Also I’m keeping your contact info in mind for next week’s Tuesday morning.
