Making a website on WordPress was NOT easy. Despite it being a popular site for blogs, I found myself struggling every step of the way to create my own blog. Too often I felt overwhelmed by the many options WordPress gave me when I was trying to change something minimal like the text alignment on my about page. Although I finally managed to align the textbox how I wanted it, I think the simple task took too long for its own good.
I believe that for experienced website makers WordPress could be extremely beneficial because it gives you absolute control to format websites in the ways you want. Making your own website on sites like WordPress removes the restrictions that a hosted service or a social media platform puts on users. However, for beginners like me, I would definitely prefer a hosted service. The process of making my own website has made me realized that I am more of a template kind of gal when it comes to technology. Although the process of starting from scratch can be liberating for some people, for me it’s just frustrating and stressful.
I think I will enjoy the process of tinkering with my own website for this class, but after this class ends I don’t think I will maintain my website. Blogging isn’t really my thing and I honestly would be more stressed trying to keep the website up.
