WordPress. More like I’mPressed

This ain’t gonna age well, but whatever. I very much think I’ll be in the minority for this, But I find setting up WordPress being the most difficult web-related thing I’ve ever done. Since I had a little bit of web-design background, I thought that changing/removing some pictures would be as easy as changing a url…but nope. There have to be an upload feature hidden away. Also, I have no freaking clue how any of my links are going to act and that’s driving me nuts. I tried going to the source code (ctrl + u) to make some sense of the madness, but it’s filled up with machine gibberish that I can’t seem to understand. Yikes.

Now that I’ve gotten my rant out of the way. I’ve got to clear up some stuff. I am in no way saying that WordPress is a terrible service. No. Not now. Not in a million year. It’s great. The only reason why I’m having a hard time is because I’m trying to do stuff that’s supposed to be easy but it’s not, and I’m just getting a bit frustrated that’s all. I think that if I were to properly learn how to operate this jargon, WordPress would actually be really easy to use. It’ll definitely be more powerful than anything I could come up with right now! In the meantime though, I’m going to be grouchy and complain about it.

As for the direction I’m envisioning with my site. I think I’m going to turn it into my actual portfolio. The typical contacts/brief introduction, and then maybe a couple of my previous works. I’ve always wanted to create a website to publicize my works to others (granted there’s not a lot right now, but they’ll come), but the time commitment of actually designing all functionality from scratch has been a huge detergent for me. With WordPress, maybe I’ll actually put that plan into motion.

I’m a strong believer that having one’s own website is a must for all content creators. Since we live in a digital age, it’s simply easier to get your work out there if you’ve already established an online presence. Also, it’s just something about having your own website that just makes your work sounds so legit…I don’t know how to explain it. It’s kind of like having your own nickname within a friend group y’know? Just something about it that just makes you more legit…at least within that group.

But yeah, expect some more contents from me on the site soon, it’ll be cool. As of right now though…the site is high-key crappy and I’m not entirely sure why my about page is freaking out….oops!

It’s interesting to see that being someone with a web design background made working with WordPress harder. Do you think it’s a case of the interface being made to be accessible for people with no web design experience making it become alienating to those who do?

Honestly, that’s a great point. Though it could also just be me being resistance to using an-already built engine instead of coding from scratch atm xD
