Sketchup House Project

A representation of the house I grew up in

I found the process of creating a house on SketchUp to be fairly intuitive after about half an hour of playing around with the software. I also found the tutorial video by SketchUp on roofs to be very useful. At first, I got bogged down in trying to make things look perfect. I was trying to make sure certain windows lined up and spending too long on minor details like how big the roof overhang should be. I also had to compromise a bit with the roof because I wasn’t able to find a way to make the roof as large as it really is without the entire house looking wrong proportionally.

This tool seems very useful for someone who has a lot of practice with the software. I would imagine this tool could be very useful for creating low-cost housing options for homeless or low-income people. One tip I would share which I realized after coming to class is that the line and square tools can be used to make doors actually look like doors instead of a boring block of color.
