Mapping the Arbs

The Carleton College Arboretum (more commonly known as the Arb) was founded in 1926, and has since been used as farmland, the meeting place for the Reformed Druids of North America, and a place for Carleton students to get exercise, learn, or otherwise just enjoy nature. The Arb has undergone many changes throughout the years from its founding, especially as its primary function shifted from farmland to conservation of native ecosystems in the 1980s and 90s. The goal of this project is to show the changes made to the Arb, as well as significant locations, in a series of interactive maps of the Arb over time. We hope that visitors to this project are able to learn a little about the history of the Arb, and that it might inspire them to go out and experience the 800 acres of the Arb themselves.
