Squirrels and Population Diversity in NYC

Using ArcGIS Online and the data provided by the Squirrel Census, I was able to create a map that displays the population diversity index of humans in 2019 and the different colors of squirrels found in Central Park. Although this information doesn’t really correlate I had a lot of fun creating the map. I am especially proud of the pop-up I configured for the squirrels. If you click on any of the squirrels in my map a cute image of a squirrel will appear along with the color of the squirrel you selected. Initially, I wanted a different squirrel image to appear depending on the color of the squirrel selected but I wasn’t able to figure out how to do that so I settled for my one cute squirrel.

I really love the inclusion of the pop-up photo for the squirrels! It demonstrates yet another function of ArcGIS that is accessible and comprehensible for both the creator and the viewer. While you say that there isn’t any correlation between the squirrel part of the map and the population diversity part of the map, I would disagree – each reveals data about different groups within different populations (be it squirrel colors for squirrels or racial/ethnic groups for people)!
