World War 2 prejudice effects on Carleton

The members of the group are Emma Wasend and Helen Keithahn

We hope to investigate the role of prejudice and the second world war in Carleton College’s environment.

Carleton’s status as a “liberal” school, in the context of the second world war. How did prejudice exist within Carleton? We would use admissions research to investigate a variety of data. We could compare certain word usage against a timeline, admissions data against number of applicants from certain demographics, and even problematic reports of issues on campus that occurred during a certain timeframe.  We have been looking into the archives of Carleton for most of our data, but for contextual data about world war two, we will be using other sources.

We are hoping to use textual analysis, timelines, and graphs to present our data. During the process we will be storing any data that will be presented as a graph in exel spreadsheets. Then we will run textual analysis on the text that we have selected, and create graphs to represent any numerical data we use.

We will present the results as a timeline for context, and specifically as graphs within the timeline as an interactive product.

We will begin by collecting the various data we need from the archives, and storing it which should, we hope, only take a week or less.
