SketchUp is a great tool for creating 3d models. It allowed me to rapidly create something close to my house, but as I worked to add in details and finishing touches the time started to add up. I spent a large percentage of my time with a model very close to my house working out intricacies.
One specific challenge was making pyramidal roof shapes. It was especially challenging to converge multiple pyramidal roofs next to each other. I tried many techniques and spent a lot of time redoing and have not settled on a solid approach.
By doing this I now realize the amount of painstaking work that goes into the extremely intricate architectural 3D models. In the past I worked with SketchUp, TinkerCAD, and SolidWorks, but built very different types of models. Overall I really enjoyed working in SketchUp and it’s definitely a tool I will use in the future.
Glad you found SketchUp to be a useful tool for you. But I’m happier that you stuck with the problems of overcoming certain challenges and still “have not settled on a solid approach,” implying more refinement to come. A useful work habit for DH!
