Exploring the Mappa Mundi

THE MAPPA MUNDI

For this assignment, I chose to explore the Mappa Mundi. For those who do not know what the Mappa Mundi is, the Mappa Mundi is a medieval European map of the world. The map contains thousands of inscriptions and drawings of medieval cities, towns, biblical events, animals, etc. The Herefold Cathedral safe-keeps the Mappa Mundi.

Sources (assets): All of the material in the Mappa Mundi digital version of it is based on the original Mappa Mundi itself which is in text rather than digitalized. There is no clear source of the project, but one can infer that the sources are from the Mappa Mundi text itself. Nonetheless, there are not any information provided that inform the reading where the information had come from.

Processes (services): The Mappa Mundi original text was digitized into a digital map allowing the viewer to look at different parts of the map with the allocated description that would allow viewer to learn more information on the parts of the map selected. The map was also scanned in a 3D version of the original.

Presentation (display): The map is presented in many different feature. You can view the map in color, in 3D scanned version, or in the original format of the map. There are certain places and categories of the map that are searchable.
