In the Fall 2025 running of the Digital History, Public Heritage, and Deep Mapping at Carleton College, we conducted a deep mapping Academic Civic Engagement project with the Rice County Historical Society, in Faribault.

The Virtual Alexander Faribault House Project attempts to fully co-create a long-term project that will build 3D models and virtual tours of the Alexander Faribault House, one of the earliest extant frame built houses in the state, in its historic landscape setting at various points in time. The goal for this iteration of the course was to conduct pilot projects that give the RCHS concrete deliverables aligned with their priorities in the short term, while laying a foundation for ongoing work to build a series of deep maps, interactive visualizations, and digital twins that will be both applied learning opportunities for Carleton students and innovative interpretive tools to increase accessibility for the RCHS and its visitors.
