My Experience

SketchUp has a million cool tools and uses for it, however there are some issues with using the website. The site crashed, froze, and was very sensitive to little movements on the mousepad. Zooming in and out was quite a feat because of how touchy it was. The website provides many tutorials and troubleshooting help which made creating easy. It wasn’t necessarily hard but it was not an easy task either. Once you are familiar with the tools and toggling, creating was a much easier task to complete.

Although, I’m not sure if it was due to using a PC that I ran into some troubles with using the materials option but my house lacked texture. When I clicked on bricks and such, it would paint the selected area the color of the bricks but not the design itself. In the picture attached, you can see that there is no texture to any of the house parts. That was the major design issue. The one thing I did learn was to offset the bottom of the building and then push it upwards to have an even roof without having to worry about the roof being uneven. That made the process easier, it could also be applied to walls to create windows or doors.

I think incorporating this into mathematics at a young age or grade would help with seeing dimensions. It is also a creative use of SketchUp if it is included in the curriculum. For example, children have a hard time with conservation and it would be useful to see it in 3-D. It will enhance their use of their creativity and education.
