The idea behind the index map was to provide a central place for all spatial data related to Faribault, so that the RCHS could adapt it to their needs. Spatial data is valuable for tracking changes over time as well as observing and comparing the intersection of different spatial features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In order to create our digital index map, we researched and collected maps and datasets, adding these as layers to the map. Included in the index maps are eight Sanborn maps, from 1884 until 1921, geographical boundary maps, geological maps, and native land maps. Since they are all layers in one digital map, each component can be toggled on and off depending on what the RCHS wants to observe. Our goal was to create a resource that could be used in a variety of ways and be easily updated in future years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Based on our index map of Faribault, we each chose to tell a spatial story about the area that caught our attention during the research process. Stella examined the history of mills in Faribault with a focus on the mill closest to the Alexander Faribault House.
