Most research seen in these maps was based upon data from the United States topographical surveys of the Lonsdale quadrangle area, or from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. To supplement these sources, several books were consulted, including the History of Rice and Steele Counties, written in the 1880s, and the Geological Survey of Minnesota from 1882.
