Above is a custom made “Flight Map” depicting the places of death for those commemorated at the Cannon Falls Veteran’s Memorial. I created this flight map to illustrate the international aspects of the Cannon Falls area in showing how this memorial connects Cannon Falls within a greater conversation of Patriotism and national identity. While relatively rudimentary, the purpose of this map is to “zoom out” per se, and show the town of Cannon Falls with connections to the outside world. In other words, my hope is to visually represent how even a town in rural Minnesota can have ties and connections to places far away (even when those ties come from military action).
