With the Cannon River and Lake Byllesby constituting the southern part of Randolph quadrangle, there is a great history of ecological diversity and hunting practices that started with the Mdewakanton Band of Sioux Indians who inhabited the area. The damming of the Cannon River in 1910 resulted in the formation of Lake Byllesby, which led to great changes in the ecological composition of the space.
