The goal of this section is to examine the environment of the Shieldsville Quadrangle and delve into its deep history. In part one, a story map will depict the layers of environment in place in the Quadrangle, beginning from the age of the bedrock, through the formation of the waterways, the growth of the plant life, and the construction of the built environment. Each step along the way will depict the origin of the salient features of the modern landscape. Part two of this map will depict the ebbs and flows of the Cannon River as it begins in Shields Lake and connects the water system. It will also look at the growing levels of pollution it acquires as it moves through agricultural land.
