Digitizing the Arb

For our final project, my group will be using Carleton’s digital archives collection to create an interactive story map of the arboretum. I’m an outdoorsy person so I’ve always found the arboretum particularly intriguing. Once you leave the areas immediately surrounding Carleton’s campus, you enter an expanse of classic farms and cornfields. This calm, open area truly feels like a different world despite the college campus being just a few miles away. Over the past year I’ve noticed that very few Carleton students seem to take advantage of the arb, possibly because most students just don’t know about what it has to offer. I hope this digital project will help other Carleton students obtain more general knowledge of the Arb. The story map and information from our project will hopefully convey why the arb is a significant aspect of the Carleton experience and our campus culture. 1. As someone who adores the arb I’m so excited to see how your project turns out. For one of my classes last year we used a really helpful guide to the arb and its history that you can find here, which might be of use to you. It could also be cool to include a way for people looking at the map to mark down their favorite spots in the arb, because that could be a great way to discover even more secret spots!
